We were asked by the owner of this courtyard garden in the docklands to create a cool, contemporary space that could be used year round for relaxing and entertaining.
The existing garden was dominated by a large Eucalyptus and Leylanii hedge that created heavy shade and made the space feel dark and unwelcoming.
Our design uses smooth hardwood decking to create two new terraces in the garden. The first leads from the main living areas and cantilevers over a large lily pond crossed by sawn yorkstone stepping stones. At the far end of the garden a second terrace constructed around an existing ornamental cherry provides the ideal spot to sit and relax in dappled shade.
The linear design is softened by bold grasses and contemporary perennials while mature shrubs and trees were used to provide a sense of privacy and additional interest.
